Broadcasting - overview
ShowCaster is designed to broadcast high quality, professional shows.
Broadcaster PC
You can broadcast using a Mac, though we recommend using a Windows PC which supports the ShowCaster browser plug-in, providing superior video quality and supports broadcasting to iOS (iPad, iPhone and iPod).
The recommended minimum spec for the broadcaster PC is:
- Windows XP, Vista or 7
- Intel i3 / i5, AMD Athlon II X4 / Phenom II X4 or better CPU
- 3GB RAM Memory
Bandwidth
600 kb/s - 800 kb/s provides good quality video broadcasting which most viewers can comfortably consume on their home broadband connections.
For the broadcaster, this needs to be the upload speed rather than the download speed - and it requires a stable connection to prevent viewers experiencing video loss and/or buffering. Most modern broadband connections are capable of broadcasting great quality video.
You can check your upstream bandwidth at speedtest.net.
Lighting
Good lighting has a dramatic effect on the broadcast quality. Sensors in cameras and the ShowCaster broadcaster perform best in natural daylight - or the closest thing to it. The primary light source should be behind the camera, rather than in front of it.
